Victoria J. Monty has left private practice and joined the Cortland County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney. Victoria, formerly of Pomeroy, Armstrong, Casullo & Monty, LLP, was rewarded with being the first woman elevated to the status of Partner in that general practice law firm, established in 1948, after proving an invaluable asset through demonstrated abilities to adapt to the challenges of practicing in multiple areas of the law. While in private practice, her practice areas included Domestic Relations, Child Custody and Visitation, Child Support, Spousal Support, Adoption, Child Abuse and Neglect, Equitable Distribution, Criminal Law, Contract Law, Landlord/Tenant, Judgment Collection and Enforcement, Real Estate, Civil Litigation, Municipal Law, Estate Planning and Probate.
Victoria has been a member of the New York State and Cortland County Bar Associations since 2003. She is active in her community. She is a former Officer of the Cortland County Bar Association, serving as President of that Association from 2012 - 2013. She has been a member of the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee since 2007. She belongs to the Zonta Club of Cortland and was elected to be President of that organization in 2013 for a two (2) year term. She was elected to serve as Zonta International, District 2, Area 3 Director for a two (2) year term that began in 2016. She is a former Director and Officer of the Family Health Network and the American Red Cross of Cortland County. Victoria was appointed to serve as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness of the Appellate Division, Third Department for a term of five years commencing April 25, 2018.
Victoria grew up in LaFayette, New York and is a graduate of LaFayette Junior-Senior High School. Her undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland is in Sociology with a Criminology Concentration. Along with her Juris Doctor, she earned a Family Law and Social Policy Certification from Syracuse University College of Law. In her spare time, Victoria enjoys reading and spending time with family — which includes pets. She also enjoys comparing and contrasting different film adaptations of her favorite novels. She currently resides in Homer.
