Changes Are Coming for Medicare Cards
Beginning April 2018 through April 2019, the Center for Medicare Services will be required to issue new replacement Medicare cards to all Medicare beneficiaries. Your new Medicare card will have a random series of numbers and letters, and will be called your Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI). The MBI will not be a social security number or any other personally identifiable information. This step is being taken to minimize the risk of identity theft and reduce opportunities for fraud. Look for your new replacement card to be mailed to you sometime between the timeframe mentioned above. The Area Agency on Aging’s HIICAP program can answer questions on this or other Medicare related questions. Call 753-5060 for more information or assistance.
