Fraud Investigation

The programs administered by the Cortland County Department of Social Services include: 
  • Food Stamps (SNAP)
  • HEAP
  • Temporary Assistance (cash)
  • Child Care 
  • Medicaid

We take misuse of these programs seriously and actively investigate any allegations of misuse of these benefits.
 
Examples of situations that could be fraudulent are:

  • Unreported income (either earned or unearned)
  • Hidden assets (bank accounts, property, etc.)
  • Unreported changes in household composition (either someone moved into the home or moved out)
  • Etc.
You can report allegations of fraud committed by a Cortland County client, provider or vendor by calling our office at (607) 753-5320, or by completing this form and mailing it to or dropping it off at our office.
