HEAP/SNAP Assistance
The Cortland County Area Agency on Aging can help eligible seniors ages 60+ apply for Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. All applications are then sent to the Department of Social Services of Cortland County for final approval. Please call one of our specialists today to see if you qualify for HEAP or SNAP benefits today!
The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) can help eligible New Yorkers heat and cool their homes.
If you are income eligible, you may receive one regular HEAP benefit per program year and could also be eligible for emergency HEAP benefits if you are in danger of running out of fuel or having your utility service shut off.
HEAP consists of 4 programs areas:
Regular and Emergency HEAP (Heating Benefits for season)
Cooling (Air Conditioners or fans to help cool)
Clean and Tune (Annual benefit to clean and tune your equipment)
Heating Equipment Repair and Replace (Repair/Replace broken heating systems)
More information can be found here by visiting the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance's HEAP PROGRAM.
SNAP-
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) issues electronic benefits that can be used like cash to purchase food. SNAP helps low-income working people, senior citizens, the disabled and others feed their families. Eligibility and benefit levels are based on household size, income and other factors.
